Gunnar Gaylord: A Change in Direction and an Addition of Goals

By Gunnar Gaylord
Last year I had the good fortune of attending two amazingly inspirational conventions, that put me on the path to a brand new year in art. I had blogged on both events at the time, those being Paradise Gathering in Massachusetts and Hell City Phoenix. And I have to say the fact that it was in Phoenix, may have a more profoundly symbolic meaning, then it was meant to. However, from these events was born a new passion in art, one that I hadn’t had in years… (more…)

Victor Farinelli: ‘Ink Master’ Prologue

By Victor Farinelli On Tuesday October 9th, Ink Masters Season 2 begins. I am not here to say anything pro or con about this show or shows about tattooing in general. I am just a sucker for “reality” TV. I used to watch wrestling when I was a kid. That’s real, right? With that being said, I am here to give you the play-by-play as the color commentator on this season of Days of Our Lives: Tattoo Addition. A regular old “Mean” Gene Okerlund, if you will. Each week I am going to give a recap of each episode. From the funny, to the absurd, to Mr. Peck’s line-of-the-episode. It should be interesting to say the least. So before the show begins, let’s look at the players… (more…)

For The Record: Stencils

Courtesy of Tattoo Archive: Originally tattooists were required to have enough artistic ability to draw the desired design onto the skin before tattooing. With the advent of wooden, paper and or plastic stencils, the tattoo business opened up to a larger group of craftsmen; who with the aid of the stencil could get the design transfer to the skin and then apply their skills to outlining and shading that design. Even tattooists with drawing skills like the ease of transfer that stencils offered… (more…)

Canyon Webb: 1st Annual Park City Utah Tattoo Convention Review

By Canyon Webb
Our flight left at 6:15 a.m. Thursday, still dark and half-asleep getting on the plane. The onset of pre-flight jitters and excitement of going to a new place fight the urge to sleep. It seemed like I closed my eyes and re-opened them to notice the reflection of the sun on a huge salty lake. We were here, and the landscape was scattered in jagged mountains, dirt and sagebrush. Down the escalator to the baggage claim as a black suited driver holds a sign that says Jeff Gogué, I turn to look at Jeff with a huge smile… (more…)

Just Eat It: Grilled Eggplant Over Orecchiette

By Stiff
My inspiration for cooking can come from a variety of things. Sometimes I get inspired by having a dish from a restaurant that I’ve never had before and try to replicate it at home. Sometimes inspiration comes from recipes I may see on television. I mostly get inspired by the certain items I see in the grocery store or farmer’s market.

Sometimes I fail at the outcome of what I’m making and sometimes I succeed. I just like to try new things and expand my horizons when it comes to testing new ingredients or cooking methods. James, my fiancé is a great guinea pig. He will generally eat whatever I make and is honest about how the food tastes. Unlike James, I myself am much more critical about how my food turns out. (more…)

Dave Waugh: Over Qualified Loser (VIDEO)

By Dave Waugh
I hate reality TV. But ask anyone I know and they’ll claim I say I love it. I do hate it though… And reality TV has actually been around since the invention of the TV, we just finally gave it a name. Game shows have always been the most successful ones, and guess what, it’s been scripted since day one too. I complain, but don’t care really, I just love TV… (more…)

*UPDATE* True South: Jordan Teear Relief Party

Story by Aaron (Tex) Finnin and party photos by Casey Keener:
One month ago Jordan Teear and I were high-fiving in celebration of his first 24-hour Friday 13th super party completion. It was to kick off our long-awaited 4,000 mile summer ride from Los Angles to New York City to meet up with our buddy Oliver Peck. We spent the next 48-hours recovering from messed up sleeping schedules and wrenching the final details on our bikes before heading east. That Sunday the 15th of July the absolute worst wrench was thrown into our adrenaline plan. “We didn’t even make it to the freeway,” became Jordan’s favorite line as he chuckled and told the story of his broken legs and ankles numerous times followed by one of his token light-hearted jokes over the next three weeks… (more…)

Taki and Molly Kitamura: A Tour of New York City

By Molly and Takahiro “Horitaka” Kitamura
New York City. I love this over-crowded, smelly, hot and humid oasis of culture, counter-culture, history, music and art. Horitaka, Horitomo, Drew Flores, and I flew out to give Horitomo’s seminar on Japanese back pieces that he did for The Bay Area Convention of the Tattoo Arts last year. It was a whirlwind of heat, walking, talking and eating… (more…)
