Taki and Molly Kitamura: The Bay Area Convention of the Tattoo Arts 2012

By Molly and Takahiro “Horitaka” Kitamura
This year’s convention went by so quickly, so I will try to break it down for you short and sweet…

The Highlights
There were so many highlights so I will name the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Jondix won best of show and Tim Hendricks did an amazing seminar on portraits- how can you beat that?

Also the convention thanks to Seth Ciferri and Phil Holt raised over $3000 in a raffle for The Shriner’s Children Hospital. The Lucky winner (Dan Moses) won two beautiful burgundy and gold tattoo machines and a set of Old Gold inks.

It was also cool and rare to see so many greats in one spot. Like getting to see Jack Rudy, Ed Hardy, Bill Salmon, Thom deVita and Good Time Charlie all hanging out and having, well, a good time.

Everyone this weekend killed it with tattoos of course and the judges told me best of show was the hardest decision to date. Last but not least, I heard Juan’s annual room party was a blast and The New Yorkers got an extended holiday – What a weekend!

Kings Ave did a collaboration on the shirt and Thomas Hooper did the poster this year- incredible job guys! Steve Byrne and Tony Hundahl are doing the poster next year, and you don’t even want to guess who will be doing the seminar!
