Lace is a delicate fabric lorded for its soft texture, intricate web-like pattern and rich roots. Originally lace was made only of linen, silk, gold or silver threads, which have all been expensive materials only purchasable by people who were quite financially well off. Nowadays lace is usually made by cotton or a synthetic fiber, but you can still find linen and silk variations out and about too – even a few artists use fine copper or silver wire instead of thread.
However, we don’t really care about thread, do we? We’re all about ink here, and today we’re talking about lace tattoos. These tattoos take inspiration from lace clothing designs and create an intricate web-like tattoo design that imitates lace-like clothing to a T.
Since lace is primarily implemented in women’s clothing, it should come as no surprise that many of the lace tattoos in our gallery today – and in general – are gotten by women. As such, it’s often paired with floral, diamond and bird designs – hey, it’s not our fault there’s some truth to stereotypes.
Regardless of how you feel about lace or gender stereotypes in general, you can’t deny that these tattoos are stunningly crafted. Maybe the next tattoo design you get can implement a bit of lace too.
