The first skateboards were made with wooden boxes or boards and roller skate wheels. However, that’s all anyone really knows about the beginning of skateboarding. The best its origins can be narrowed down to is sometime in the 1940s or early 1950s by surfers in California.
The first manufactured skateboards were ordered by a Los Angeles surf shop and were used as something for surfers to do during their downtime. By the 1960s though, skateboarding was starting to come into its own as a sport, with the first broadcasted skateboarding competition being the 1965 National Skateboarding Championships.
Skating has since become a sport and phenomenon of its own, one that many tattoo enthusiasts love just as much as tattoos/tattooing. Thus this skateboarding tattoo gallery was born.
