Badass Piano Tattoos

The piano is a popular musical instrument played with a keyboard that was invented sometime in the 1700s, although no one seems to know the exact date of its inception. Despite its lack of portability and typically expensive price tag, the piano’s versatility and elegance has attracted a large number of musicians over the centuries. A traditional piano features 88 keys that, when pressed, cause a hammer to strike a tuned cord within the frame. Each cord makes a unique sound that can be held even when the keys are released by foot pedals at the base. We hope you enjoy this piano tattoo gallery even if you’re not a fan of the piano itself.Read More »

Awesome Pigeon Tattoos

Yes, pigeons. We made a tattoo gallery based around pigeons – which apparently many people widely misspell as “pidgeons”. This is the type of tattoo gallery that gets made on a Friday afternoon when you just can’t think of anything else. And frankly, it’s remarkable that there are so many high quality pigeon tattoos out in the world to begin with. Apparently people really like pigeons, and also confuse them with doves. Unless doves are a type of pigeon, but that fact doesn’t really seem important enough to Google right now. So, without further ado, we present to you, pigeons.Read More »

Fantastic Ninja Tattoos

Okay people, we need to have a bit of a discussion about what constitutes a ninja tattoo and what doesn’t. While Naruto may involve ninja-esque characters, they are quite a ways removed from actual ninjas. Therefore, when searching #ninjatattoo on Instagram, we don’t expect to see the slew of Naruto tattoos that we saw. Also, there’s a difference between ninjas and samurais. They may have existed during the same time period, but they are not the same. The pictures featured in the tattoo gallery below feature ninjas, and quite a wide variety of them too. Enjoy.Read More »

Tattoo TV Shows are a Mixed Bag

Dan Henk tattoo artist

Artist, author and regular TAMblog contributor Dan Henk offers his take on tattoo tv shows and what you really need to know…   The TV shows on tattooing have been a mixed bag. I think that’s pretty clear to everyone in the industry.   I have heard plenty of feedback from tattooers who just automatically slag them off, but I’ve also received a lot of carefully considered replies that they have some benefits. I haven’t had anyone in the business tell me they are great, with the exception of the criminally under-watched and underrated Tattoo Wars, but let me go over some points.   There are the shows that artists universally pan, such as the short lived and almost universally vilified “Tattoo School”. Or the sappy sentimentality, bad artwork showcase of Tattoo Highway. In fact, all the shows tend to amplify the drama, from the Inkmasters, to the LA Ink’s, NY Inks, Miami inks, and so forth. Things are pitched and twisted so they highlight what the producers think is the most marketable product. They are all  heavily scripted, edited, and coached. But even with all those caveats, they have created some lasting impressions on the public that are completely false. The shows make it sound like a good artist can do anything. This might have been  the expectation in a flash shop twenty years ago, but its a different world now. You used to be able to go to the local doctor for whatever ails you. Now if you ...Read More »

Fantastic Lightning Tattoos

Have you ever just watched lightning dance across a cloudy night’s sky? Depending on where you live, you may have never had the pleasure to experience lightning at all. But that doesn’t mean you can’t appreciate the beautiful artwork often inspired by one of the most destructive all-natural forces on earth. Lightning is actually a fourth form of matter known as plasma – it’s what suns are made of and is what occurs when a gas is heated to unbelievably high temperatures or subjected to a strong magnetic field. We hope you enjoy this gallery as much as you enjoy watching lightning play from afar – however much that may be.Read More »

Artist Spotlight – Paul Dobleman

Paul Dobleman @pauldobleman 4

Paul Dobleman is an artist’s artist. He doesn’t tattoo for fame or recognition. (Although the same could probably be said for all of the artists we spotlight.) He tattoos simply because it’s what he loves to do, and he’s been doing for quite a while now. He specializes in neo traditional tattoos – which are tattoos that are designed to have a very traditional feel to them but utilize new techniques, inks and styles to bring traditional tattoos into the modern era. As such, it can be difficult to definitively say if a tattoo is traditional or neo traditional because the two forms are very closely related. However, we contend that if a neo traditional tattoo is done properly then it’s supposed to be difficult to discern from a traditional tattoo anyway. That being said, Paul Dobleman is a master. If you get a chance to get a tattoo from him, we highly suggest you take advantage of the situation. RIP – Gene Wilder 9.11.1933 – 8.29.2016

On August 29th. 2016 the world lost one of the greatest comedic talents it has ever seen in Gene Wilder. He passed away at age 83 from complications of Alzheirmer’s disease, but his inspirational talent is sure to live on for many decades and centuries still to come. Gene Wilder was a comedic actor known by many for his starring role as Willy Wonka in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. However, it’s almost criminal to boil down his career to just that role because he had many outstanding performances throughout the 23 films and numerous television appearances he made from 1967 to 2003. Gene was a phenomenal comedic talent that inspired many comedians and actors who are working today, and he will be sorely missed. R.I.P Gene Wilder.  Read More »

Gorgeous Lipstick Tattoos

Alex Ortiz @alexorteez

Lipstick is a cosmetic product containing pigments, oils, waxes, and emollients that apply color, texture, and protection to the lips. (That’s according to Wikipedia and by now you should realize that a guy is the one writing this post.) Lipstick is estimated to have been invented and first utilized almost 5,000 years ago by Ancient Sumerian men and women. Lipstick impacts many people’s daily lives, so it makes sense that they would add it to their tattoo designs. We hope you enjoy the gallery below and if it inspires you to get a new tattoo then be sure to share it with us on Instagram.  Read More »

Impressive Metroid Tattoos

The Metroid franchise began back in 1986 with a game on the Nintendo Entertainment System simply titled Metroid. It follows Samus Aran as she – a fact that was initially disguised from the player until much later in the game for shock factor – attempts to retrieve parasitic Metroid organisms from Space Pirates. The game’s exploration and back-tracking style would prove so popular that it would shape an entire genre of games to come, a genre now known as Metroidvania. (We’ll cover the “Vania” part in a later gallery.) To this day the series remains strong for Nintendo. The latest entry into the series came out on August 19th, 2016 and was titled Metroid Prime: Federation Force. We hope any and all Metroid fans who find themselves here enjoy the gallery below.Read More »

What’s Wrong with These Tattoos? Everything!

Yesterday we brought you a gallery of bad piercings after a plethora of posts featuring phenomenal tattoos. Today, we’re bringing you a gallery of horrendous tattoos. While we’d like to touch on exactly what makes these tattoos so bad, it’d be easier to discuss what isn’t wrong with them. These tattoos are fine examples of everything a tattoo artist should strive to avoid when designing a tattoo, and a few of them are even great examples of how not to take pictures of tattoos too. We’re going to continue a cut back on negative galleries, but you certainly can’t say we don’t give the people what they want.Read More »

Menacing Clown Tattoos

Gabrielle Brownfield @imjustgabs

Does anyone actually find clowns funny? To some, they work better as nightmarish figures in a Stephen King novel than modern day jesters. Today’s comedic sensibilities have mostly surpassed the era of clowns, leaving them only really fit for small children’s parties and circuses – because for some unexplained reason circuses are just supposed to have clowns. Once we grow up though, and are back in the land of the familiar, clowns are best utilized as fiendish villains. You’re sure to see many menacing clowns like the ones featured in the tattoo gallery below as we draw closer to Halloween. Enjoy.  Read More »
