Memorializing Prince, an Iconic Music Legend

Matt Tyszka @matt_tyszka

Held in high esteem by musicians and music fans alike, Prince was widely regarded by critics and fans as being an innovator well beyond his years. He was one of the best-selling artists of all-time with over 100 million records sold worldwide, won seven Grammies, a Golden Globe, and an Academy Award. There’s certainly a reason Prince was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame the first year he was eligible, back in 2004. Unfortunately, on April 21st, 2016, Prince was discovered deceased in an elevator at his Paisley Park complex. He’d been battling with the flu since April 7th but had appeared fine in the weeks leading up to his passing, appearing in public on numerous occasions including a Lizz Wright concert on April 19th. A 9-1-1 call was placed at 9:43 am but Price did not respond to CPR and was pronounced dead at 10:07 am. While he may be gone, Prince will certainly not be forgotten. His music had already firmly implanted him historically as one of the greatest musicians to ever dedicate their lives to music. From 1976 to 2016 Prince released 50 albums and performed worldwide in over 25 tours. Easily one of the most prolific artists of the last few decades, Prince is said to have owned a vault of fully produced unreleased work that includes 25 music videos, full albums and other media. What will happen to all his music will remain to be seen over the course of the coming ...Read More »
