Chet Zar: Second Skin Group Show July 14th at Copro Gallery

SS_WebAd

By Chet Zar I only discovered the tattoo community about 3 years ago when I was invited by tattoo artist Jon Lane to paint live at 2009′s Visionary Tattoo Art Festival. I was impressed from the start. Not only were these artists creating truly cutting edge art work on skin (conceptually, tattooing blows every other artistic statement out of the water, in my opinion), they were also painting as good as or better than a lot of well known contemporary painters I’ve seen. I was truly blown away at the variety of styles, techniques and ideas and wondered why I wasn’t seeing a lot of this stuff at the galleries I was showing at and going to, especially when a lot of the artists were expressing interest in showing at these galleries… Read More »

Seattle Tattoo Expo: On the Road in Washington

seattle-3

By Nicki Kasper My trip to Seattle started a little rough… I was trying to get to my hotel to pick up all my boxes and drop them off at the venue before they closed at 7 p.m. but apparently there are two Roy Streets in Seattle, and my navigation system had other plans for me. After I got all the boxes loaded into my car, I made my way to Super Genius for Damon Conklin’s pre-funk party… Read More »

Cory Norris: Dragon Back Piece, Part I

cory-norris-blog-2

So I have to say right-off from the get-go what a huge honor this is to be asked to write for the TAM Blog. I’m always proud to be able to interact and give back to the tattoo community. I was going back-and-forth on ideas and racking my brain in-between work, family, school and whatever else gets in the way for ideas to write about. I scrapped a lot that may surface later, but I want to just start my first one with my process of how I go about starting a tattoo –from the first sitting to the final sitting… Read More »

isaac-fainkujen-5

Interview by Brian Seghers Brian Seghers: If you could go back in time to any era, or to work with somebody, or somewhere, where would you like to go? Have you ever thought about that? Isaac Fainkujen: Yeah, I think for me the era that’s most interesting is kind of the tattoo renaissance that took place in and around the Bay area in the 70s and the 80s with Ed Hardy, Bob Roberts, Greg Irons, Eddy Deutsche and people like those guys that started to push the boundaries of what was okay and what wasn’t okay to do in a tattoo… Read More »

Cory Norris Tattoo Artist Magazine Article Preview Issue #26

cory-norris-2

Interview by Jeff Gogué Cory Norris: The approach that I take in life is going to be the same approach that I take for every tattoo, for the work that I do. I go at it with an open mind, I listen, I am observant. Obviously with a tattoo, you’re working on somebody else so they’re going to have their own agenda on what they’re wanting in the tattoo. You have to be respectful of that, but hopefully they’ll give you some leeway to open up and express yourself through it, to a certain degree… Read More »
