I was told by others that had worked for Hanky (Henk Schiffmacher) that it was not possible to get someone to vouch for you, or to call ahead to test the waters. Just wanted to let you and your readers know where we are at with the museum. We got 12 days left and going into the last round. This week should be pretty hectic, but that’s how we like it. The permanent exhibitions are just about finished as far as painters and carpenters go. Henk is working around the clock, painting away, having meetings, interviews, barking at everyone, overseeing some 50 people with the help of Annemarie Beers and Almar, still squeezing in some tattoos here and there, and still showing up in the mornings with new ideas and drawings of rooms and exhibitions he had made the night before. And all this is for you, tattoo lovers of the world…

When Kent called me and said, “Hey, do you wanna go to Vegas for a week?” I cringed… and thought, “Wait until he sees those god damn bats!” There is no doubt that a week in Vegas would be just short of some kinda sick, demented self-suicide with a blackout blizzard of shame setting its course, heading straight for me… no stopping it, no preparation could help me weather that storm. Buy the ticket, take the ride… Let’s just hope I make it to the Mirage Hotel and Casino before those god damn bats do…
Fresno Tattoo Convention: On the Road in California

This post will be much like the Fresno convention, short and sweet! The Fresno convention is one of those rare two-day shows that has all the talent and pageantry of a three-day convention, without the Friday blues that many of us are accustomed to. There are very few shows where you don’t hear at least one person say, “Friday was slow… I’ll kill it on Saturday.” So Fresno just cuts out the Friday complaints and gets right to it on Saturday… [Video on expanded page] (more…)
Motor City Tattoo Expo: On the Road in Detroit

The Motor City Tattoo Expo holds a special place in my heart. This convention (four years ago) was the very first convention I worked for Tattoo Artist Magazine. I had no clue what I was doing! Crash mostly abandoned me that first year, like a newborn gazelle, I was thrown to the “tat con” wolves and had to get on my feet and start running. But I guess there’s no better way to figure out how to survive than sink or swim… (more…)
