The London Tattoo Convention: I’m Not Kent…

I understand why people confuse Kent Smith and I… We are both smart, handsome and incredibly funny, actually I’m slightly more handsome, but it is such a small margin of error I see how it’s confusing for most. I would personally like to thank Lucky Bastard for calling me “Kent” all weekend, even going out of his way to pop into the TAM booth room just to shout KENT at the top of his lungs. In 1998, I took my first trip to Amsterdam to try and sit-in at the infamous Hanky Panky Tattoo. I was told by others that had worked for Hanky (Henk Schiffmacher) that it was not possible to get someone to vouch for you, or to call ahead to test the waters. New Amsterdam Tattoo Museum to Open on Schedule

Just wanted to let you and your readers know where we are at with the museum. We got 12 days left and going into the last round. This week should be pretty hectic, but that’s how we like it. The permanent exhibitions are just about finished as far as painters and carpenters go. Henk is working around the clock, painting away, having meetings, interviews, barking at everyone, overseeing some 50 people with the help of Annemarie Beers and Almar, still squeezing in some tattoos here and there, and still showing up in the mornings with new ideas and drawings of rooms and exhibitions he had made the night before. And all this is for you, tattoo lovers of the world…

Horitaka Talks About the Upcoming Bay Area Tattoo Convention

It’s already August, and the tattoo convention I throw with Roman Enriquez (Strong Tattoo/45s Forever) is coming up soon! This year the convention in scheduled for October 21-23 and we are returning to the SFO Hyatt Regency. Danny Boy Discusses New Amsterdam Tattoo Museum with Horitaka

Tattooers love to travel… I recently got to catch-up with Danny Boy as he was running up and down California. His wife was getting tattooed by Horitomo at my shop and they crashed at my house for the night. We chatted a bit over coffee and I was especially eager to ask about the New Amsterdam Tattoo Museum. This project is the brainchild of Henk “Hanky Panky” Schiffmacher, a living legend of tattooing and one of the world’s leading tattoo historians.
