Yesterday was the birthday of one of my biggest early influences in tattooing. His name was Mike Malone, his friends called him Rollo… I called him, Mr. Malone… (more…)

So I’ ll begin this weeks record reviews from low to high. It was a good score from Emmittsburg this week with both lows and highs. And lows that should have been highs. Up first, a bland 60′s comp of “danger music” movie and TV theme songs… (more…)

It’s June 27, 2012 and we are finally back in Georgetown. Lizzy is back in the saddle for session five on her back with Dave Waugh.
It has been almost a year since session four and truth be told I still have not submitted part four to TAM yet (it is up now). So I have hopes that I will get both of these to them pretty quick (that didn’t happen). The banter with Dave is great. We talk about a recent trip to Niagara Falls and being grilled by the border patrol on the way back in and Lizzy and I making up stories about us meeting on Christian Singles or that she was a porn star and that I met her on her site. It is now 1:36 p.m. and the buzzing of the machine starts and session five is underway… (more…)

So I received a lot of positive feedback on my recent Dio flash sheet, so I was inspired to do another Dio-esque piece, and this time it was for a trade…

Here is a commission piece I did for fellow tattooer named Chris Smith. He was interested in purchasing a piece of artwork from me that had a similar format and he let me pick the subject matter… (more…)

Getting a back piece is quite a commitment physically, mentally and financially. For all the reasons stated above this installment takes place a bit over a year ago. We knew Lizzy would not be able to come back for another session for quite a while so I held off submitting it to the TAM Blog. Little did we know that it would take so long. We hope to be on more of a regular schedule from here on out… (more…)

I hate reality TV. But ask anyone I know and they’ll claim I say I love it. I do hate it though… And reality TV has actually been around since the invention of the TV, we just finally gave it a name. Game shows have always been the most successful ones, and guess what, it’s been scripted since day one too. I complain, but don’t care really, I just love TV… (more…)

In this age of websites, magazines, blogs, TV shows and a vast myriad of other such social networking venues the tattoo world has shrunk. There are lots of super-talented kids out there tattooing who are doing mind-bending work that everyone knows about. Their names are talked about in excited conversations in tattoo shops springing up on every corner in every town with a population larger than 200 all over the world. Some are even being spoken in hushed reverent tones as the new “legends” of tattooing. There are more people tattooing now than ever before. They are more widely recognized than ever before the age of the “tattoo celebrity” is upon us. The possibilities are seemingly endless for a young up-and-coming kid with talent and ambition…

On a sunny June 6th here we are back in Georgetown at Jinx Proof for session three on Lizzy’s backpiece from Dave Waugh. Today he will concentrate on background on the left side of the back, kidney and rib area. Ouch. That’s okay, Lizzy brought a friend with her. His name is Dr. Numb. A topical numbing cream suggested by Dave. The cream has been applied and covered with Saran wrap and parts will stay covered as Dave works until he begins to work on them. Right at 2 p.m. Dave’s needle strikes the skin and they begin to talk about things being thicker and longer. So they are off to a good start… (more…)

So after a rainy drive down from Baltimore we are back at Jinx Proof for Elizabeth’s (Lizzy) second session on her back. Lizzy seems a bit anxious as we get here but that’s understandable, tattoos hurt. Based on the little I have started on my own back it is quite uncomfortable… (more…)
Well, my New York trip was a little hectic. I managed (with lots of help and cooperation) to get around 10 interviews filmed in four days, while having a pretty good time in the process… (more…)
Of all the things I’ve lost, I miss my mind the most… New York has missing pieces of my memory buried in her blanket of billboards, bright lights and broken glass… The end of the weekend had a very Fear-and-Loathing-in-Las-Vegas feel to it… There are cell phone camera-flashes, and small chunks of larger events replaying in a non-descriptive manner in my mind. I can recall middle pieces that have no end and beginnings that have no middle or ending… They only thing I’m 100 percent positive on; I had a good time… I think? [Video on expanded page](more…)
Earlier this year [a friend of mine] Elizabeth approached me about doing a back piece. Not just any back piece mind you, but a big-ass unicorn back piece. Of course I jumped at the opportunity to do this because for years I had been toying with drawing a somewhat similar idea, and I thought she’d be the perfect candidate for it.
When Crash asked me to write for the TAM Blog I said, “Yes, of course.” Then it hit me; “Now I have to think of what to write about?” Well, I am happy to say that with a little patience it has fallen into my lap.
Elizabeth, (Lizzy) who works the counter at Have Fun Be Lucky where I currently tattoo, announced she was going to get her back tattooed by Dave Waugh… –jealousy came to mind. (more…)
