By Dave Allen
Dave Shore passed away suddenly this year, the very day his shop was scheduled to close. He worked almost daily right up to the end. It is his legacy that we wish to honor! A character of mythical proportions… Stories of his days in Texas, Hawaii and Europe are from an era in tattooing few of us got to witness. Dave worked under the banner of such great tattooists as Mike Malone, Zeke Owens and Henk (Hanky Panky) Schiffmacher and alongside Ed Hardy, Horiyoshi, Luke Atkinson, Corey Miller, Paul Jefferies and many more. Dave was bigger than life and left a great impression wherever he went… (more…)

Let me tell you a little story about Jesse Stark. Jesse starting tattooing as a young man and like most of us had to struggle to learn the craft of tattooing. Jesse worked in Detroit for a while. When I say he worked in Detroit I mean in the city not the suburbs. He was shot at one too many times there and he left to work in the safer community of Ann Arbor… (more…)

What up y’all, for those who don’t know who I am, my name is Thomas Morgan from HB Tattoo in Southern California. As most of you already know, on November 21st the Amsterdam Tattoo Museum was taken away from all of us, doors locked forbidding access and collection taken hostage! The Amsterdam Tattoo Museum is the first museum that is totally dedicated to tattooing. It shows the world’s largest tattoo collection, collected by Henk (Hanky Panky) Schiffmacher. Fighting tooth and nail along side of Henk is his lovely wife Louise ‘The Queen’ Schiffmacher. In the midst of their year-long battle to save the Museum, Louise recently got news that she has liver cancer and needs a transplant. (Letter from Louise: http://ow.ly/gQj7f.) Now they need our support more than ever. That’s where we come in! We have recently teamed up with an Non-Profit Foundation based here in Huntington Beach, CA called “Fxck Cancer” a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Together, I think all of us in the tattoo community, along with Fxck Cancer can raise the funds needed to help out Louise, Henk and the Foundation… (more…)

By Dawn Cooke This event is about donating a toy to a child in need. Every year around Christmas Depot Town Tattoo holds a toy drive. Front Street Tattoo, Mike Emmets shop in Traverse City, Michigan does the event also every year. Clients bring in a toy valued over $15 bucks and get a tattoo valued at least 50. We usually do 100-120 tattoos that day. We do this as a way to give back to the community. The toys go to Carrot Way Community Center for low income families who are struggling to get on their feet. They also go to Methodist Children’s Orphanage to kids who don’t have parents and kids who live in foster care… (more…)

As many of you know, we started this little TAM Blog less than two years ago after I “convinced” Crash and Kent to hire me full-time to spearhead the digital media nerd moment that is sweeping the world-over… So, I am happy to announce that this week the TAM Blog has surpassed the 1 million page view mark already! This amazing accomplishment is greatly due to all of our contributors, writers, followers and sponsors that have helped us grow and build a digital space for tattooers and enthusiasts to share stories, ideas and events, not just with the tattoo community, but the entire globe… (more…)

Story by Aaron (Tex) Finnin and party photos by Casey Keener:
One month ago Jordan Teear and I were high-fiving in celebration of his first 24-hour Friday 13th super party completion. It was to kick off our long-awaited 4,000 mile summer ride from Los Angles to New York City to meet up with our buddy Oliver Peck. We spent the next 48-hours recovering from messed up sleeping schedules and wrenching the final details on our bikes before heading east. That Sunday the 15th of July the absolute worst wrench was thrown into our adrenaline plan. “We didn’t even make it to the freeway,” became Jordan’s favorite line as he chuckled and told the story of his broken legs and ankles numerous times followed by one of his token light-hearted jokes over the next three weeks… (more…)

By Aaron (Tex) Finnin: As some of you may or may not know one of my best friends Jordan Teear and I have been planning a ride from Los Angeles to NYC for months… Yesterday as we were leaving he was hit by a lady going 60-plus MPH… Jordan is stable and fortunate to be in as good of shape as he is but has a long road to recovery… He is resting and waiting for surgery on his two broken legs…
Jordan is a great tattooer from London, one of the best guys I know, and is miles away from friends and family… We have set up a PayPal for him to aid in his needs during recovery until he can get back on his feet… Those that know him can attest that he is one of the most amazing and positive people around… A true gentleman… Please keep him in your thoughts in his recovery… If you would like to donate to him send as a “gift” to PayPal account firstname.lastname@example.org…
Courtesy of Dos Changos Locos Tattoo: Dean Dennis is very sick with a brain tumor. We have set up an account to help him with his medical costs. Please hit the donate button and give what you can. The funds will go to Dean and his family to help with his medical costs.
Courtesy of Mari Bell Bones: Mark “Tigger” Liddell was a true one-in-a-million man who lived life to its fullest! He was a Renaissance man with advanced degrees in some pretty serious topics yet always made time for decadence and debauchery on a grand scale. He was a man who is now evolving into legend — and his family is in need of assistance… (more…)

A good friend and coworker at Chicago Tattoo Company, Rudy Carrillo was hit by a car a few days ago while riding his bike home, Rudy has no insurance and two daughters to take care of. He has a broken mandible and is seeing a plastic surgeon today to help repair damages to his chin. The force of the hit was so bad that the front fork of his bike was sheered clean for the rest of the frame. We are asking everyone if they can make a donation to help out with Rudy’s hospital bills while is out of work. We are trying to get a fundraiser together soon to help out as well.
All donations can be sent to his PayPal at email@example.com

Toys for Tats is something we started at Depot Town Tattoo two years ago. Our first year 100 people showed up and we tattooed as many as we could. That first year we had no idea it would go down like that at all. The second year was twice the turn out and four of us did double the work. This year there are five of us and we are doing something a bit different. Since we couldn’t possibly get to everyone, we are signing up the first 100 people early starting on December 1st and anyone else who wishes to donate a toy will receive a voucher for $20 dollars toward their next tattoo.

When I think about good tattooing, I think of art executed by skilled craftsman. In an era of chain stores and mass production, it is always refreshing to see something hand-made. I met Jamie from RePop through my good friend Chris Yvon. Chris told me about Jamie and RePop, and the hand-made goods they produced. The product certainly lived up to the hype! Rings, buckles, wallets and more, all with old world craftsmanship, with some weight -no cheap materials, and a great retro feel…
