My new and dear friend, Alessandra Palotti is a great tattoo artist and a great cook! Alexandra is Italian from Bologna, Italy where she has been tattooing for over 6 years. Alessandra and her husband, Koji Ichimaru, run their private studio in Bologna, what a beautiful place to live, definitely on my go-to list!
Alessandra and I got to cook together one day. I made beef Milanese and she made Bolognese sauce. I had never had traditional, authentic Bolognese before and had a completely different idea in my head on how it is made. I learned so much from her that day.
Here is a mix of Alessandra’s tattoo photos, her recipe and photos of the process. Please enjoy and try out her recipe, it will become a staple in your culinary repertoire!

When I first agreed to attend the tattoo expo in Napoli, Italy… Honestly, I had doubts I would make it. It would be my third trip to Italy in less than a year. I, of course, am honored and grateful to be invited anywhere and would continuously be on the road if it wasn’t for my responsibilities at home. I love adventure and with an ever-present awareness of my own mortality, I want to experience as much as I can before the bell tolls. I wouldn’t call myself a thrill seeker. I hardly call myself a traveler, but I do what I can to make new friends and see new places. Napoli was a new place. Different than the places I’ve been before in so many ways… (more…)

First and foremost, I would love to thank Daniele “Ceyen” Hoang of Psycho Tattoo for extending the invitation and giving my brother Alex and myself an opportunity to come tattoo and explore Roma, Italia together. I would also like to extend great thanks to Francesco Giamblanco for his exceptional tour guide work and for his undying patience and love as a co-host. The welcome was warm and easy, as they were eager to keep us entertained, busy tattooing and fed! It seemed to come all so effortlessly, their actions spoke in volumes and resonated throughout the duration of our trip and experience with them. We appreciate you! (more…)
Henning Jørgensen is 50 years old and has been tattooing for 32 years. That’s one year less than I’ve been alive. Royal Tattoo (his shop) has been open in Helsingør for 28 years and 26 of those years in the current location.
I was five years old when it opened… (more…)

Beppe is one of those rare tattooers that learned to tattoo without any direct local influences. Because of this, he developed a style that is all his own. His tattoos are rooted in the classic styles but developed in a different way than most of the tattooers I know. He is so devoted to tattooing in all he does that whenever I visit him it amazes me how many days a week he works and how many hours he puts into his drawings. [Video on expanded page.] (more…)
Beppe: First tattoo shop was my tattoo shop, Ink Addiction. I know it sounds weird in some ways, but where I live there was no way to get a proper apprenticeship. It’s such a small town and nobody would give me any help.
Ok, so this blog was supposed to be posted over a week ago, but I could not muster the strength or energy to get it done. It seemed that I somehow got brushed by the black finger of death while in Milan, with the worst illness I have faced to this day. I have no clue what this Italian funk was that I caught, but I do not wish that shit on my worst enemy… Well ok, maybe they too should be struck with it one day… (more…)
