Interview by Tim Hendricks

Tim Hendricks: Do you plan on ever mellowing out with the traveling or do you want to keep going?

Lindsey Carmichael: I love it. I have to backtrack a tiny bit and say that I was at Gold Rush when these changes came about in my life, right after I turned 40. I was kind of feeling closed off and slightly alone in my life…  (more…)

Interview by Dan Sinnes

Dan Sinnes: What do you think about the new generation of tattooers? Like people who tattoo for three years and are amazing tattooers?

Steven Burlton: It’s just like we were talking about. They’re well on their way. Of course it’s way easier to get into it and the facets are all open now. There’s no limit to what you can get a hold of, as far as reference materials and supplies and stuff like that…  (more…)

Interview by Brian Kaneko

Brian Kaneko: So you do all Japanese tattoo art on people, but what others aspects of that culture do you use in tattooing? For example, how your studio is set up, how you interact with clients, etc. Also, what is your approach to a new client who will be starting a large piece with you?

Shad: My studio is a private studio by appointment only. First, the customer contacts me by e-mail, which is the easiest way to get in touch with me. We can talk about the design… (more…)

Knives & Needles: Lindsey Carmichael from Gold Rush Tattoo

brynne-profileBy Brynne Palmer
My good friend and fellow tattooer, Lindsey Carmichael, is one of those incredible people who is enthusiastic about whatever he is involved in, and it really shows through in his work. His approach to tattooing is very precise, clean and thorough, qualities which can be seen in every tattoo he makes. It’s no surprise that his approach in the kitchen is very similar. When I asked him to contribute his favorite recipe, he was stoked and more than happy to share! Please enjoy the culinary stylings and wisdom of the one and only, LHC!  (more…)

*UPDATE* True South: Jordan Teear Relief Party

Story by Aaron (Tex) Finnin and party photos by Casey Keener:
One month ago Jordan Teear and I were high-fiving in celebration of his first 24-hour Friday 13th super party completion. It was to kick off our long-awaited 4,000 mile summer ride from Los Angles to New York City to meet up with our buddy Oliver Peck. We spent the next 48-hours recovering from messed up sleeping schedules and wrenching the final details on our bikes before heading east. That Sunday the 15th of July the absolute worst wrench was thrown into our adrenaline plan. “We didn’t even make it to the freeway,” became Jordan’s favorite line as he chuckled and told the story of his broken legs and ankles numerous times followed by one of his token light-hearted jokes over the next three weeks… (more…)

Molly Skobba: Brynne Palmer

By Molly Skobba
I have not known Brynne Palmer for a long time, but I feel like I’ve known her for years already. I attribute that to her sweet and open personality. Her sunny disposition immediately puts you at ease and any intimidation seems to melt away. Brynne has been tattooing for almost eight years. She started out at Tattoo Mania in L.A. and currently works at Gold Rush in Costa Mesa, California(more…)

Dan Smith Tattoo Artist Magazine Issue #28 Preview

Interview By Lindsey Carmichael

Lindsey Carmichael: But you are not the type of person I know to be affected in a negative way by nonsense. And most of the people who would have negative things to say about the show or whatever—it wouldn’t affect you. From what I’ve seen, in your life- only great, positive things have come of this. So, I’m just wondering, what the experience was like? It seems at times overwhelming, but mostly great…

Dan Smith: Well it’s such a funny thing, because everybody and their dog has an opinion about it. Yet, no one really knows about it. Everyone wants to know about it, and wants to talk about it, but it is what it is. How much thought and energy do you want to put into the fact that it’s a TV show? In order for tattooing to be a TV show, it has to cover some stuff that’s exaggerated, or that might not be 100 percent accurate, or whatever else. That’s just being realistic about what TV is.

LC: It’s a show.

DS: Why should that make you have an opinion about somebody that you don’t know, haven’t met and haven’t had a conversation with? You know? They film for 50 or 60 hours a week and put that into a 45-minute show…

Eric Jones: Lindsey Howard Carmichael

So I have this co-worker, his name is Lindsey and he is slightly older than me, has been in the industry a little longer than me and knows more about music than the average music historian.  Lindsey Carmichael first tattooed me over a decade ago, while he was sitting in a small, condensed, walk-in friendly shop known as Laguna Tattoo…
