Interview By Jason Schroder and Shawn Barber
Henry Lewis: I did the shop-guy thing for about four or five months, and then you asked me to be your apprentice. And you gave me the whole low-down on what it would be, and at that point, you know, I was a cocky little graffiti-asshole who thought the world revolved around me, and uh, you know…
Shawn Barber: And did you stop painting at that point?
HL: I didn’t stop painting, I just put that on hiatus for a little bit, because the apprenticeship was a little more important. And I didn’t have a lot of free time.
SB: So you were tattooing, and just focusing all your energy on that.
HL: I was focusing my energy on the apprenticeship. And when I got a little free time I’d draw. Like, I kept illustrating and drawing images that I thought would work as tattoos. I would try to make graffiti-type characters into traditional tattoos, but make them have like a graffiti edge. It was sooo bad. [Laughs] (more…)
Alright, this year’s trip to Paradise Tattoo Gathering was super cool, and I also had a chance to go to Off The Map Tattoo and guest-spot the week of the show.
Let’s just say that the name Off The Map is fitting! It’s in small town USA where nobody locks their doors or cars, which seemed weird to me because back home in L.A. we lock up everything, including the dogs…

It’s already August, and the tattoo convention I throw with Roman Enriquez (Strong Tattoo/45s Forever) is coming up soon! This year the convention in scheduled for October 21-23 and we are returning to the SFO Hyatt Regency. My trip to Seattle started a little rough… I was trying to get to my hotel to pick up all my boxes and drop them off at the venue before they closed at 7 p.m. but apparently there are two Roy Streets in Seattle, and my navigation system had other plans for me. After I got all the boxes loaded into my car, I made my way to Super Genius for Damon Conklin’s pre-funk party…
The second evening to our reincarnation weekend is when we drop the black curtains and launch the all new Tattoo Theatre area of our space. Not only is this another chance to take in the art of Chet Zar and Craig Larotonda, but on this special night you can truly soak in the entire Last Rites experience… (more…)
I’m too old for this shit, but damn, what an adventure! I thought I could write something short to share the TAM Road Trip journey and give TAM Blog a little more content. I believe the potentials we have with the TAM Blog are pretty evident, and given enough time, can be fashioned into something powerful, entertaining and educational…
Bio from Tyson McAdoo’s Site:
Born from the secret love affair between a famed Scottish ballerina and the Wolfman, Tyson McAdoo spent his younger years leaping and howling in the dark woods of Carlisle. Musink was three days of skating, rock ‘n roll and hanging with some old peeps, while meeting some new ones… Oh, I guess some people got tattooed as well? Above is a video compilation we put together from some of the activities at Musink. However, it’s hard to cram a whole show into a three minute video clip, so we have added some pics and another short video below… Enjoy!
