Vice: Tattoo Age Valerie Vargas Bonus Footage (VIDEO)

While we’re waiting for the premiere of Tattoo Age’s Thom DeVita killer episode, we just released some Valerie Vargas Bonus Footage. Vargas takes us to meet the legendary English tattooer Lal Hardy who has been tattooing since 1975 and is generally considered to be one of the people who elevated tattooing in the UK in the 1980s.

Vice Magazine: Tattoo Age Mutsuo Episode I (VIDEO)


The new Tattoo Age features Mutsuo, he has more styles than the first of day school.

This series revolves around an artist named Mutsuo who tattoos at the world-famous Three Tides Tattoo in Osaka, Japan. Mutsuo went from being one of the shop’s first customers to its first apprentice, and now he is considered its most senior tattoo artist. He learned the trade from all the American tattoo masters who visited Three Tides, and got what Chris Garver calls “a 90s-style tattoo education.” Enjoy.

Omar Edmison: Tattoo Shop Therapy

Ernie Gosnell paints signs that say all sorts of awesome things (do yourself a favor the next time you see him buy the man a cup of coffee, listen to his tales and pick up some of his signs) one of my favorites will usually have a chicks head, devil, skull or just some other such tattoo goodness. Emblazoned under it hand-lettered One Shot reads, “If you don’t belong, don’t be long.” I am sure that those of us who live, breathe and eat tattooing and tattoo shops have from time to time felt that very sentiment. It seems like there are those who “belong” and those we just wish wouldn’t “be long.” For whatever reason some of us seem to fit right away, still others take longer and some… I am afraid just aren’t ever gonna be what I affectionately refer to as, tattooy.

Omar Edmison: Who the Hell Does This Guy Think He Is?

In this age of websites, magazines, blogs, TV shows and a vast myriad of other such social networking venues the tattoo world has shrunk. There are lots of super-talented kids out there tattooing who are doing mind-bending work that everyone knows about. Their names are talked about in excited conversations in tattoo shops springing up on every corner in every town with a population larger than 200 all over the world. Some are even being spoken in hushed reverent tones as the new “legends” of tattooing. There are more people tattooing now than ever before. They are more widely recognized than ever before the age of the “tattoo celebrity” is upon us. The possibilities are seemingly endless for a young up-and-coming kid with talent and ambition…
