Myke Chambers: Idiocracy?

0-1 By Myke Chambers
I was talking with a friend a little while back about the state of tattooing today, comparing it with how things were just 15 or 20 years ago. He made a really good point… A lot of people say, “Yeah tattooing going mainstream sucks but now there are more people getting tattooed so we’re all making a lot more money.”

But he then reminded me that yeah, 15 years ago there weren’t as many people getting tattooed but there also weren’t as many tattooers either, so anyone that wanted a tattoo didn’t have a whole lot of choices. Today there are sometimes a hundred shops in a city or maybe even upwards of 300 in a big city…  (more…)

Update: Richard Stell Benefit This Saturday June 15th

richard-stell-1Richard Stell recently suffered a heart attack and has been diagnosed with heart disease. This couldn’t have happened at a worse time for them as they are in the middle of opening their new shop Pair-O-Dice in Oklahoma. This event will be held June 15th, 2013. I’m asking tattooers from coast to coast to work a normal day on the 15th, and send those profits from that one day’s work as a donation to the Stell’s via PayPal. The donation PayPal is: RStellHeart@gmail.com…  (more…)

Victor Farinelli: Best Ink Season II Season Finale (Episode 10)

By Victor Farinelli
In the words of the dead, drug addled rock star Jim Morrison, “This is the end, beautiful friend, the end.” Yes folks, this pop-culture game show dubbed “Best Ink Season II” has reached its final episode. What started off as a study in mediocrity, slowly digressed into a judge’s vehicle in auto-fellatio pseudo-fame. If the item that is to be fellatioed could be found, that is…  (more…)

Tattoo Culture #2 Available Now!

96

Hey Everyone!

We’re very excited to announce the release of Tattoo Culture Magazine #2… and with it, another occasion to do what most believed impossible- to Educate, Entertain & Inspire tattoo fans around the world with articles created by conscious leaders of the professional tattoo community uniquely FOR the public.

This is a momentous opportunity, (and in many ways, a responsibility), for our community to attempt to make a positive difference in the tattoo culture, with a key emphasis on mentoring and helping casual tattoo ‘fans’ BECOME educated and aware tattoo collectors. We want millions to learn not only how to recognize and get GOOD  TATTOOS, but also WHO the great tattooers of our world truly are…  (more…)

Legislators Do Their Best Mike Tyson on Tattoos

heath-cutout-100x99_100_99_86_sha-40By  Heath W. Fahle (Story originally appears at: http://www.ctnewsjunkie.com.)
Connecticut’s legislators are about to do something crazier than Mike Tyson’s face tattoo: create a state licensing scheme for tattoo artists.

At first glance, of course, the idea seems perfectly sensible. If my kid makes the dumb decision to get a tattoo, the parlor should at least be regulated in some way, the logic goes. Worrying about the kid is legitimate: one in three Americans under 30 have a tattoo, according to recent surveys, and the number is expected to grow… (more…)

Victor Farinelli: Best Ink Season II (Episode 9)

By Victor Farinelli
It is down to the wire, folks. Four contestants are left in the game show of extreme skill and ability to see who is going to be named Best Ink. They must pay income tax on $100,000, and appear on the cover of Tattoo Magazine. HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA, “extreme skill!” I crack myself up sometimes! And Tattoo Magazine? I haven’t picked up this rag in a long time, but when I did, it had some of the crappiest tattoos out there. Back in the day, this wonderfully professional publication contained construction paper pages of black and white photos of color tattoos. Apparently, it has improved somewhat over the years, relying more on artists’ submissions than submissions by people with their own homemade tats(more…)
