Icelandic Tattoo Convention 2013

222

Story and photos by johndotcom Iceland… Land of the Midnight Sun… In retrospect, ending a month-long European trip in a place that has 24-hours of sunlight was probably not the best idea I’ve had. However, despite the lack of sleep and the subsequent fatigue-jetlag-exhuastion-sleep deprivation-sinus cold I’ve had since returning to the States… I’d say it was well worth it… Before I continue, I just want to thank Össur, Linda, Thomas Asher, Olafia and everyone at Reykjavik Ink for making all the madness possible… Read More »

ROC City Tattoo Expo 2013

roc-0

By johndotcom  There are only two things you need to know about the ROC City Tattoo Expo… 1. If you are a tattooer, this show should be on your tat con list! 2. If you are a tattoo enthusiast, this show should be on your tat con list! Actually, there’s more to it than that… But just like me, that’s the tall and skinny of it… I cannot begin to thank Jet (Joseph DiProjetto, Love Hate Tattoo), Shane Stevens and the whole ROC Crew for making this experience better every time I come to Rochester…  Read More »

The Pacific Ink & Art Expo: Hawaii’s First Ever Tattoo Expo Breaks New Ground

hawaii-1

By Danny Claser In 2009 I was free and clear from break-up with a female tattoo artist who was on the show LA Ink. In the time we were together we spent a lot of time traveling the world doing tattoo conventions. I fell in love with the atmosphere and the people who attended these expos. It reminded me of being on Warped Tour when I was a traveling musician. I think I connected to this messed up, chaotic, yet beautiful carny way of life where nothing had stability yet it was stable in the storm. I missed being surrounded by people the world looked at as weirdos or circus freaks. The musicians life is not that far off from the tattooers lifestyle and somehow porn stars and gypsies all seem to fall under that umbrella as well…  Read More »

Travel Tips: DIY Wet Panel Box

1 painting box supplies

By Melissa Fusco For those of us who may have the chance of painting away from our home studio’s, you may find this box to be handy for carrying wet panels. The summer of 2011, I attended a week-long landscape painting workshop in the wet lands of New Jersey and built a more simple wet panel box for my everyday travel. I kept the box in my truck and was able to transport wet panels from the days location to my accommodations, where I continued working on each piece. Instead of the Jenga-like game of panel stacking while on the road, and the stress of limiting the fix-ups that may need tending to due to all the movement, or worse… ruining a piece all together; here’s an inexpensive, custom and rewarding project that can be used for multiple trips…  Read More »

Jamie Macpherson: Psychedelic Visions and Revolution Through Art

Jamie Macpherson-profile

By Jamie Macpherson I’ve been creating some new works using multiple processes. For years, I despised the digital medium, attributing it to taking jobs from all the real organic artists and classical animators. As a tattoo artist I value the hand-made aspect of creation as something more intimate or personal. Then I got into the world of fractals and sacred geometry and I knew I had to use computers to my advantage. The computer became a way of generating beautiful mathematical patterns that I could use in sculpting a complex new art style that combines hand drawn and hand painted elements. I taught myself how to customize settings and brush tools and as a result, I have created a new medium to work in that is so much more than just clicking a button…  Read More »

Dave Waugh: Work in Progress Session V (By Hunter Spanks)

dave-waugh-V-1

By Hunter Spanks It’s June 27, 2012 and we are finally back in Georgetown. Lizzy is back in the saddle for session five on her back with Dave Waugh. It has been almost a year since session four and truth be told I still have not submitted part four to TAM yet (it is up now). So I have hopes that I will get both of these to them pretty quick (that didn’t happen). The banter with Dave is great. We talk about a recent trip to Niagara Falls and being grilled by the border patrol on the way back in and Lizzy and I making up stories about us meeting on Christian Singles or that she was a porn star and that I met her on her site. It is now 1:36 p.m. and the buzzing of the machine starts and session five is underway…  Read More »

Fxck Cancer Fundraising Benefit at HB Tattoo

fuck-cancer-flyer

By Thomas Morgan What up y’all, for those who don’t know who I am, my name is Thomas Morgan from HB Tattoo in Southern California. As most of you already know, on November 21st the Amsterdam Tattoo Museum was taken away from all of us, doors locked forbidding access and collection taken hostage! The Amsterdam Tattoo Museum is the first museum that is totally dedicated to tattooing. It shows the world’s largest tattoo collection, collected by Henk (Hanky Panky) Schiffmacher. Fighting tooth and nail along side of Henk is his lovely wife Louise ‘The Queen’ Schiffmacher. In the midst of their year-long battle to save the Museum, Louise recently got news that she has liver cancer and needs a transplant. (Letter from Louise: http://ow.ly/gQj7f.) Now they need our support more than ever. That’s where we come in! We have recently teamed up with an Non-Profit Foundation based here in Huntington Beach, CA called “Fxck Cancer” a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Together, I think all of us in the tattoo community, along with Fxck Cancer can raise the funds needed to help out Louise, Henk and the Foundation…  Read More »
